Multinational organizations face tremendous challenges when it comes to establishing—and proving—labor compliance. There are myriad national and local labor laws to comply with, which may include wage and hour regulations, absence and leave laws, fitness for duty regulations, and work hour limits. Yet that’s not all; the complete matrix of laws and standard practices you need to comply with depends on multiple variables, from your organization’s location, to where your employees live and work, whether they are exempt or non-exempt, and even their ages. To add even more complexity, many national and local labor regulations overlap with one another, creating confusion. In some cases, your corporate policies may provide more extensive employee protections, superseding national and/or local laws, or your employees may be able to opt out of certain provisions. All of these factors combine to make demonstrating compliance extremely difficult.
